The Sims is a video game series developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts. It is one of the most successful video games series of all time. As of April 16, 2008, the franchise has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, and as of March 19, 2008, is the best-selling PC franchise in history.
The games in The Sims series lack any defined goals. The player creates virtual people called "Sims" and places them in houses and helps direct their moods and satisfy their desires. Players can either place their Sims in pre-constructed homes or build them themselves. Each successive expansion pack and game in the series augmented what the player could do with their Sims.
The MySims series is a spin-off franchise of The Sims. MySims came from the desire from the developers of the series when they wanted to make something more kid-friendly and for everyone but still "Sims". They also wanted to create characters that you could talk to, and get to know more about.
Although MySims and The Sims are both very different despite both having "Sims" in their titles, both share some similar traits. Both have characters use the trademark gibberish Simlish language. The Plumbob (image shown on the right) appears in both The Sims and MySims. In The Sims, the plumbob is used to symbolize which Sim you have selected to do an action, and changes color depending on the Sim's mood (red for bad, yellow for unhappy, and green for happy). In MySims, the plumbob appears above any object or Sim that is in front of you, the player Sim. Available actions to whatever is below the plumbob will appear on the bottom of the screen.
